Scotland’s domestic rugby league scene is set for a historic new chapter as the inaugural East v West Origin clash has been officially confirmed for 23rd August 2025.
Inspired by the ferocious rivalry of Australia’s State of Origin, the East v West concept aims to pit the best domestic talent against each other in a fierce, pride-fuelled battle for regional supremacy. The East side will draw from players representing Edinburgh Eagles and Forth Valley Vikings, while the West team will feature standouts from the West End Warriors and Glasgow RL.
A New Tradition in the Making
Organisers believe this match could become a cornerstone of the Scottish Rugby League calendar. “This isn’t just a game. It’s a celebration of regional pride, club spirit, and the next step in growing the sport across the country,” said Barry McGuffog of Scotland Rugby League.
“This match is about identity, representation, and opportunity. The Origin game could become a crucial stepping stone for Scottish players aspiring to reach the next level as we seek to select a squad for upcoming international representative games. Details of those games will be released in due course but we look forward to some exciting times ahead”.
