Competition Framework

The Saltire Schools Rugby League tournament mirrors the Carnegie Champion Schools in England which is the largest schools knock out competition in the world. What makes Saltire Schools particularly unique is that the schools who compete are generally situated around community clubs to help further develop school to club links.

That isn't to say that if there is no community club in the area your school can't particpate. Scotland Rugby League encourage all schools to participate in the competition to help aid the development of the sport at a local and national level.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES TO 2011/2012 COMPETITION: 26th AUGUST 2011

The competitions regional rounds take place anytime prior to Christmas and are organised by the Regional Development Staff at Scotland RL. These regional rounds will either be run as a festival or league format depending on the schools in the region, a winner wil be declared and move onto the national rounds. The tournament National Rounds take place on the dates below:

Quarter Finals: 14th February 2012

Semi Finals: 25th April 2012

The Saltire Schools Rugby League Tournament is further advanced by fulfilling the criteria of the Rugby League PDC model which begins to address the development of FUNdamental skills and the development of young players onto the Scotland Rugby League pathway.

This approach puts the athlete at the centre and concentrates on all participants being able to reach their personal potential. The Scotland Rugby League National Framework includes a National Player Development Centre for U15 and U16 players that is shaped to the benefit of the player and the development of Rugby League by:

* Providing better opportunities for more people

* A competition pathway that develops skills of young athletes. Provide appropriate competition for all participants taking into consideration PDC and the player pathway

* Providing more opportunities for School Club Links

* Providing more opportunities for volunteer, coach and match official development
