Governing Body
Scottish Governing Body for Rugby League
Scotland Rugby League is the governing body for Rugby League in Scotland, overseeing player development and participation at all levels of the sport. Our aim is to provide opportunities for people of all ages to take part in the game, while developing a strong competitive environment to support the development of our elite players at international level.
It was in 2008 that the Great Britain international team separated into Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. There were many reasons for this, some emotional some rational, but all geared to develop the game we all love. The first and by far the largest opportunity is the World Cup. The pinnacle of international competition that will next be staged in 2013 in England, and with Scotland RL already guaranteed qualification, it will be an exciting three years as we develop and prepare to compete.
The Scotland team already has a well respected international pedigree:
- Currently 9th in the World Rankings (4th in Europe)
- Under 18's European Cup 2008 - WINNERS
- Under 16's European Cup 2009 - WINNERS
- European Cup 2009 - RUNNERS UP
- Amateur Four Nations 2010 - Grand Slam Champions
The headline adult competition in Scotland is the Rugby League Conference, with clubs based across the length and breadth of the country.
The National Youth League competes at both under 15 and under 17 level.
As a summer sport, these competitions run from April to August. The season culminates in ‘Grand Finals Day' as the top teams in each league play off to be crowned season champions.
The Saltire Schools Rugby League Tournament is Scotland Rugby League's flagship schools tournament that includes teams the length and breadth of Scotland. For more information on how you can become part of it click here
