About the Role

Scotland Rugby League (SRL) is seeking a proven, high-calibre, and dedicated Head Coach to lead our Women’s National Team. This is a vital role that requires an experienced leader capable of fostering a positive, high-performance culture while driving technical and tactical development. The primary purpose of this position is to prepare the squad for elite international competition, deliver consistent on-field performance, and act as a role model for the growth of the Women’s game throughout Scotland.

The Head Coach will be responsible for the entire performance cycle, from strategic season planning and implementation of training programmes to the monitoring, evaluation, and welfare of all players, working closely with SRL staff and the wider coaching team.

Key Responsibilities

Performance Planning & Delivery:

  • Season & Session Design: Lead the planning, implementation, and rigorous review of the National Squad Season calendar, training sessions, and objectives.

  • Technical Leadership: Lead the delivery of up-to-date technical and tactical rugby league aspects appropriate for elite competition.

  • Game Management: Lead the planning, preparation, and review for all international fixtures and tournaments.

Management & Team Leadership:

  • Staff Management: Manage all coaching and performance support staff to ensure effective delivery of the national team programme.

  • Performance Evaluation: Lead the monitoring and evaluation of both individual player and overall squad performance in conjunction with the coaching team and SRL staff.

  • Feedback: Provide timely, high-quality, and constructive individual and team feedback (written and verbal).

Player Welfare & Culture:

  • Duty of Care: Remain proactively aware of and take responsibility for players’ physical and mental preparation in conjunction with relevant SRL staff.

  • Culture: Actively foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance culture within the squad environment, ensuring all SRL values are upheld.

  • Collaboration: Support the medical team in injury prevention and rehabilitation, and ensure player pastoral welfare is accounted for alongside other staff members.

Administration & Professionalism:

  • Compliance: Ensure all required information and documentation are submitted within deadlines set by the Team Manager and SRL.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to identify and solve problems quickly and efficiently, making decisions in line with NGB and national guidelines.

  • Growth: Commit to personal growth through feedback and discussion, and contribute to the continued growth of rugby league in Scotland.

Candidate Requirements

Qualification RFL or ERL Level 2 coaching qualification (working towards or possessing a Level 3 is highly desirable).

Experience Proven experience in planning and delivery in relation to elite competition.

Leadership Ability to handle on-field and off-field aspects of coaching professionally and in a timely manner.

Skills Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Compliance Provide appropriate Disclosure Scotland status and satisfactory references upon request.
