Scotland Rugby League is delighted to announce the appointment of Ady Picton as our new Women’s Head Coach.
Ady steps into the role following a successful tenure as Assistant Coach, where he was instrumental in the team’s progress over the last year. A popular and respected figure within the squad, his appointment ensures continuity and a strong foundation for the upcoming season.
The appointment follows a rigorous recruitment process featuring a high standard of applicants. While the competition for the role was strong, Ady’s deep understanding of the group and his clear vision for the programme’s future made him the right fit to lead the team forward.
Building on Success
Reflecting on his appointment, Ady was quick to acknowledge the work of his predecessor and expressed his excitement for the future of the squad.
Ady Picton said:
“Firstly, it’s a great privilege for me to be trusted with this role. A massive thanks must go to John Whalley for all the work he did last year in getting the women’s team to where we are today.
“I have seen first-hand the talent we have and look forward to welcoming all players to our trials in March, where we will hopefully discover more players that will help us drive the women’s team to the success we believe is achievable.
“I can’t wait to get started and, having spoken to the staff, I know they feel exactly the same. We look forward to continuing last year’s success.”
Looking Ahead
With Ady now at the helm, the focus shifts to the upcoming trials in March. The coaching staff is eager to build on the momentum of last season and continues to invite ambitious players to join the Scotland RL performance pathway.
Further details regarding the March trials and the 2026 season schedule will be released in due course.
