Born near Monchengladbach, Germany, Midge qualifies through his father who was born in Inveresk.

Introduced to rugby whilst serving in the Royal Air Force, Midge has played for several Military & Civilian Teams including RAF Brampton, RAF Marham, Hitchin, West Norfolk, Swaffham (RU) & St. Ives Sharks, Huntingdon Bombers (RL)

In 2007, Midge was diagnosed with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP), a rare, generic, degenerative condition, resulting in lower limb weakness which severely affects his mobility. This condition effectively ended his service career & ability to play rugby.

Introduced to wheelchair rugby through a Help for Heroes taster session, Midge went on to represent the UK at the 2019 Warrior Games & is due to compete at the rescheduled 2022 Invictus Games in the Hague. Whilst at the Warrior Games, Midge was introduced to Wheelchair Rugby League by fellow Scotland International John Willans and made his Scotland debut at the 2019 Tri-Nations tournament in Wrexham.

Midge currently plays for Saracens WCR & newly formed Glasgow RL.
