The University of Edinburgh made their debut to the sport in the BUCS plate competition against Newcastle University 2 in Edinburgh. Edinburgh who have never played a competitive match of rugby league pulled off a shock win over the visitors 34 – 14

Scottish Universities in BUCS action

Scotland's universities prepare for BUCS action this week as two Edinburgh based universities work their way into the finals. Scotland's flagship university for rugby league, Edinburgh Napier University are heading south on Thursday morning to face Leeds University in the British Universities and Colleges Sport Shield final at West Park rugby club in Leeds. The match will be Edinburgh Napier's first outing at a final in 8 years the team are eager to bring some rugby league silverware home for the first time.

Giles Lomax, Edinburgh Napier University captain and Scotland "A" Hooker said:

"We are really looking forward to the game, we worked hard all season, won our league but lost out on a technicality to Leeds TAS. It's been a good season overall, although with all the travelling we haven't been able to field a strong team away from home but we won't be far from it on Thursday. We travelled with a skeleton 13 to Manchester Met and managed to pull off a 36 - 30 win and we again travelled in the semi final to beat UWIC, so I think we throughly deserve our place on Thursday final."
