Scotland Rugby League are pleased to announce the new coaching teams for the U16 and U19 Programmes. Jordan Robinson has taken the reigns as U16 Head Coach, with Matt Bowen, Dan Turland as assistant coaches and Martin Robertson as Team Manager.

Mark Brennan takes over from Danny Addy as the U19 Head Coach following Danny’s return to action, Liam Prescot remains as assistant coach and Alex Chandler as Team Manager. Mark Brennan is also the Head Coach for St Helens Women’s team and brings with him a welath of knowledge.

Both U16s and U19s, begun their 2019 programmes on Sunday 4th November, led by the newly appointed coaching teams. With each section welcoming new faces and it was great to see some of last years U16’s players moving up into the U19 programme.

Players were put through their paces with fitness testing, including YOYO, sprint speed and Bronco, with players to be retested as the programme progresses. This was then followed by specific skills and conditioned games. It is great to see both programmes growing, welcoming new players along.

Jordan Robinson said:

I enjoyed the first session; the players approached the challenges with enthusiasm and I was encouraged with the raw ability of the players. The task is to now improve the game knowledge and understanding.

We had a great turnout for the first session and I’m hoping we can build on the numbers at the December session, with the view to selecting a full playing squad for the playing opportunities

Mark Brennan said:

It was great to finally get involved with the Scotland and get out on the field/ We have been speaking as a coaching group about plans for the next 2 years, its an exciting time for this group of players and coaches. The talent on show at the first session was very impressive. The players worked hard and where a credit not only to Scotland Rugby League but also their clubs.

I am excited to see the programme develop with more players coming into the programme from the under 16s this is a young squad with a lot of potential going forward which is great for the game in Scotland. We are looking forward to working together over the next 2 years as we build into the Euro’s in 2020.

The next training session for U16s and U19 Player Pathway Programmes will be on Sunday 9th December at Peffermill Playing Fields.
