David Scott – a Scottish Rugby League Local Hero

  • View Larger Image

“David has the chance to become Scotland’s most capped player and as someone who came through the Scotland Rugby League pathways that would be a magnificent achievement.”

These are the words of Scotland Rugby League Chair; Keith Hogg and they are a ringing endorsement of David Scott and all those volunteers and staff who have invested in his career.

It was the lure of the Rugby League Challenge Cup played across the United Kingdom and Ireland that originally attracted David to the sport.

David was originally an Easterhouse Panthers player from the east end of Glasgow. The club was a true community organisation which has provided a start in many rugby league careers.

Having been scouted by Super League’s Hull Kingston Rovers in 2011, David moved on to Doncaster and then Featherstone Rovers before settling into his current home with Batley Bulldogs in the UK Championship competition. His career total so far of 136 first team games scoring 390 points is admirable by most standards and remarkable given the journey. In 2019, David became the all-time top try scorer for Scotland Rugby League, scoring four times in Scotland’s World Cup qualifying campaign to bring his total to 10 international tries.

In addition, David has been a part of two world cups and has ambitions to be a part of Scotland’s squad in 2021.

As David says,

“There’s no greater honour than representing your country, it means everything to me; as a kid all I wanted to do was play for Scotland and I’ve been fortunate enough to do that. It’s not just me that it means something to, but my family as well since they are the ones who gave me the opportunity to do it.

Scotland camps are always a time of year to look forward to. It’s a different set up to what I ever imagined or what I’ve ever experienced. The closeness of the group is second to none both on and off the field. The camps are always a time of year to look forward to and I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in World Cups and Four Nations competitions. ”

Keith Hogg concluded his comments saying;

“David is a highly respected member of the Scotland squad. He is one of the stalwarts of the Scotland set-up.

He is an example of what someone who grew up in Scotland can achieve in rugby league. His determination to succeed and the hard work that he has put into his sporting journey is an example to all our young players.

We also really enjoy seeing what it means to his Mum and Dad who are very passionate followers of David and the Scotland team.”
