Gary Smith, who takes over from Nathan Graham, as Students head coach has announced his squad for the Tri Nations tournament which takes place in Ireland this year.

The Students competition, the first since 2019, will see Scotland compete against Ireland on Sunday 19th June and England on Tuesday 22nd June at the National University of Ireland in Galway.  Both matches are scheduled for a 2.30pm kick off.

Head Coach Gary Smith had this to say:

It’s fantastic to see the Scotland pathway gathering momentum after what has been a very difficult few years for rugby league in Scotland. I had some incredibly tough conversations with the players that missed out on Sunday, they had given it their all and contributed to our overall squad and I would personally like to thank them.

I am hopeful that they will all be back next season pushing for a spot in the 20. For the 20 players selected, it’s a huge honour to represent your country at an international tournament and I’m sure they will do themselves and their families proud over in Ireland.

The squad will be one of the most diversely selected Scotland Student sides selected, with 14 institutions represented. Loughborough University and Northumbria University have the biggest representation with three players each, whilst The University of Edinburgh and Furness College have two each.
