Glasgow Rugby League v Forth Valley Vikings – Scottish Cup Semi-Final

This weekend will see Glasgow RL take on Forth Valley Vikings RL in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Both teams have met a number of times this season with The Vikings coming out on top on each occasion. But never right off Glasgow RL a team who start strong and if they can keep a tight defence in the opening quarter the game will be close and as always very entertaining.

Glasgow RL have a great core of players who have RL experience and a dedicated coaching team (lead by James Beckett and Andy Fyles) there team manager Nick Jonsson also does a lot of background work without being in the lime light making sure his team and coaching team have everything they need in place to keep moving forward. This shows on the pitch as their structure improves week on week. Their attack can be very fluent and with experienced half backs in key positions it shows when they are on a roll with the ball.

The Vikings use a lot of rugby union players who they have managed to convince to switch codes and play league through the summer but under the leadership of Kris Illingworth and Mark Milnes have been crowned national league leaders 2022. Not the way the Vikings would have liked to win the league with a few teams dropping out but as a 2-year-old club making progress week on week is great for the sport here in Scotland.

This weekend’s semi-final will determine who meets Edinburgh Eagles in the Scottish Cup final (23rd July 2022) venue tbc, where both teams will not only play for the Scottish Cup but will also play for the very lucrative Betfred Challenge Cup spot for 2023.

All Clubs here in Scotland are always looking for new players, experienced or not, please get in touch with Scotland RL and we will point you in the right direction for your nearest RL club.

With this week’s game being in central Scotland it makes it a great place for fans to Come down and watch some Rugby League played in the sun.
